As 3D printing technology continues to advance, technological innovation is also occurring in the defense sector. In this context, education programs to train the workforce in defense 3D printing have been conducted. This is reporter Kim Hyo-jin.
3D printing technology is being utilized in various fields such as automotive, medical, and aerospace, emerging as a key technology in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The defense sector is also actively working to expand the application of this technology. A representative example is the training program for workforce in defense 3D printing currently being conducted at Hanbat National University.
[Choi Kyun-seok, Professor at Hanbat National University]: “Since 2019, we have established a basic AM training course for workforce in defense and have had 183 graduates to date. We will actively support the enhancement of the military’s 3D printing technology capabilities.”
The curriculum is designed to improve the military’s 3D printing technology and infrastructure. This year, it included practical training in all process stages, from theory to design and actual printing, and post-processing.
[Sergeant Kim Nam-yong, Drone Operations Command]: “I find it very effective to learn the entire production process of 3D printing through practical training, and I hope that more 3D printing experts will be produced in the defense sector, leading to the enhancement of the military’s 3D printing technology.”
The second phase of the training, which will explore the latest technology trends, will be conducted from July 8 to 12. This is Kim Hyo-jin from KFN News.
KITECH KAMIC has also been providing extensive support for the 3D printing training for workforce in defense since 2019. This support includes dispatching our reknowned researchers, providing facility support, and facilitating networking. In 2024, Senior Researcher and Director of KAMIC Dr. Son Yong was dispatched as a lecturer, sharing his experiences and insights from the past decade on applying AM in the defense sector with the participants.
