U.S. and ROK Marine Corps logistics units conducted a KMEP joint logistics combat element exercise in Pohang, enhancing combined logistics support capabilities and interoperability.
A key component of the training was the use of 3D printing to produce repair parts. Personnel practiced the ability to manufacture and apply required components on-site, demonstrating rapid equipment recovery capabilities in operational environments.
Notably, the personnel who operated the 3D printers during the exercise had completed multi-year training through our center’s defense-focused additive manufacturing workforce development program. This highlights a meaningful case where education and real-world deployment are effectively integrated. In addition, 3D printers introduced last year were deployed in a field exercise for the first time, confirming the capability to rapidly produce discontinued or hard-to-procure parts on-site.
The exercise also included specialty training such as joint recovery and evacuation drills, combat swimming, and ship boarding operations, further enhancing logistics procedures and individual combat skills.
