KAMIC and IMOB Discuss Research Collaboration on
High-Value 3D Printing Technologies Utilizing Rare Metals
On August 26, 2024, Prof. Dr. Kenzhaliev, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation (IMOB), visited the KAMIC (Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Siheung 3D Printing Manufacturing Innovation Center). This visit was a significant opportunity to discuss research collaboration between the two institutions, focusing on high-value 3D printing technologies utilizing rare metals.
IMOB, established in 1945 during the Soviet era to support the production of non-ferrous metals in Kazakhstan, is now a key scientific center in the country. It conducts fundamental and applied research in mineral processing, metallurgy, and materials science, supported by various laboratories and a dedicated team of 206 researchers and engineers. IMOB also engages in education and research activities for students, undergraduates, and PhD candidates.
IMOB has already established a collaborative relationship with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology’s Rare Metals Center, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 15, 2023. This MoU focuses on the development of technologies and joint research initiatives related to the high-value utilization of rare metals. The recent visit to KAMIC builds on this collaboration, with discussions centered on advancing the commercialization of 3D printing technologies that utilize rare metals.

During the meeting, the potential for combining KAMIC’s advanced 3D printing technologies with IMOB’s expertise in metallurgy and mineral processing was explored, aiming to enhance the production of high-value metal products. Both institutions plan to accelerate the development of new technologies through joint research projects, further increasing the utility of rare metals.
KAMIC expects that this visit will further strengthen its international research collaboration network and significantly contribute to enhancing the global competitiveness of domestic 3D printing technologies.
